Black Yoga Society

In May 2020, Black Yoga Society was created from the struggle to find Black-owned yoga studios, healing spaces, and esoteric products. BYS invites you to meet Black wellness professionals, find services you need, and buy all-natural products from people who relate to you on a personal level.

BIPOC Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) Skills

A 12-session commitment for groups of 10 people max, per Pod. 90-minutes per session. Thursday Afternoons from 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM

Each session will be facilitated by Mariam Mishriki, MACP a Registered Psychotherapist with years of experience supporting clients with issues related to trauma, relationships, codependency, anxiety, depression, loss, maladaptive ways of coping, and LGBTQ+ experiences among various other challenges. This offering is reserved for folx who identify as BIPOC.

This Healing Pod will address the following themes:

  • Mindfulness
  • Emotion Regulation
  • Interpersonal Effectiveness
  • Distress Tolerance

Food for Thought: Exploring Nutritional Wellness in Community

A 10-session commitment for groups of 10 people max, per Pod. 2-hours per sessions. Saturday Afternoons from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Each session will be facilitated by Raysha Vijendran, MSW a Registered Social Worker and Certified Nutritional Practitioner with years of experience supporting clients with issues related to eating, stress, trauma, anxiety, depression, and body image among various other challenges. This offering is Open-To-All.

This Healing Pod will address the following themes:

  • Practical approaches to eating healthy
  • Educating participants on the basic principles of eating healthy 
  • Eating healthy on a budget
  • Grocery shopping, meal prep and so much more!

Introduction to Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) Skills

A 4-session commitment for groups of 10 people, per pod. 90-minutes per session. Monday Evenings from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM

Each session will be facilitated by Adrian Harris, MSW a Registered Social Worker with years of experience supporting clients with issues related to anger management, trauma, relationships, codependency, anxiety, depression, maladaptive ways of coping, and LGBTQ+ experiences among various other challenges. This offering is Open-To-All.

This Healing Pod will address the following themes:

  • The core principles of DBT
  • Techniques and practices aimed at increasing present-moment awareness 
  • Exercises to identify, understand, and regulate emotions effectively
  • Tools to navigate relational challenges with confidence and resilience

Mindset Makeover: A CBT-Based Group Therapy for Anxiety and Depression

A 7-session commitment for groups of 10 people, per pod. 2-hours per session. Wednesday Evenings from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM.

Each session will be facilitated by Reegan Bushby, MSW a Registered Social Worker with years of experience supporting clients with issues related to anxiety, depression, sleep or insomnia, LGBTQ+ experiences, self-esteem and stress management among various other challenges. This offering is Open-To-All.

This Healing Pod will address the following themes:

  • The cognitive, emotional, and behavioural aspects of anxiety and depression
  • Techniques to challenge and reframe negative thought patterns 
  • Overcoming avoidance behaviours and increasing engagement in meaningful activities
  • Developing coping skills to manage anxiety and depression symptoms effectively
